Playing the 4-6 Defense Effectively

okay! i am a huge fan of the 3-4 defense with my Ravens. however, i know that the 4-6 defense brings the heat the best. sure...i know a few good plays out of the 4-6 for the runs and some passes....but....how do you "effectively" run the 4-6? what is the key to it being a dominating defense?

hmmm...i run the 46 for high running teams such as the chargers vikings maybe cowboys and teams like that wit a real dominate back. the 46 has a weakness for the post route...the best way to bring heat from the 46 is gap pressure but if the opponent has a tendency to stretch the field then get out of the 46...and dont use 46 on 4 wide or shotgun

haha cant tellu how many people get comfortable with the 46 and end up running it vrs shotgun. Good point buddah.

yeah lol im jus sayin if u gungho on the 46 ill jus straight shotty and do verticals regardless if u bringing pressure or not

I feel ya cuz i just unranked practic emode the 46 and get beat alot out of shotty.. I usually use dollar or qtrs for the spread

i beleive that each defense 3-4, 4-3 and 4-6 etc., have their strengths and weaknesses. many people hate the 3-4 because they feel that they can't stop the run. and other...dislike the 4-6 because of what you guys have said about handling 4wr+ sets. i guess it just boils down to your own preference.

i use 46 pb and run the nickel formations and the 46 normal and bear.. the deep route can be stopped by reseting the safeties deep zone... not that hard to do.. u can drop a LB in there as well..
for 4WR i use 46 normal or nickel 335...
fav pb cuz i can nano from any play in the 46 normal or bear..

ebook is gunna be posted this week on the site about the 46 playbook... it includes a TON of nanos and good blitzes along with some coverage schemes that mixed with the nanos are deadly.. pm me if u want a sample or are interested..

indeed...i need ta learn ta use nickle defense caus all i use is dolla wen ppl go to shotty unless im in my 3-4 book

i nvr run dollar... a player with good Running game stick will prolly breakout if he sees dollar...

I love the nickel because there's so many good coverages out of that formation.

u gotta adjust almost every cover play cuz they all have ways to get beat if u can pick the zone apart be giving the QB time..

I'm usually able to get pressure on the QB witha linemen, if not I usually have all my ploayers shifting around pre play anyways.

dollar is money vrs the pass tho.

deep post or any screen will destroy dollar... if i see dollar or hear 7 DB's i audible to a play i kno i will get 10 yds for sure..

I just usually play with the Multi-D pb because it has all the defenses I like.

i use 46 in the redZone..... my redzone d is pretty tight

What audibles in the 46 do u guys use

one of my audibles is buzz weak so that you can stop the run most of the time if they no huddle i think i also have 3 deep blitz for a run stopper to

ok how bout the rest of your audibles for no huddle

what is your pass stopper

i swear in the 46 they r kno good plays against the pass such as Drop Zone or Buzz Duo or Cover 4 Flats where u can find in 4-3

or do u guys try to nano a lot
