| The best thing to do is play the middle of the field, usually works for me! | |

| it's all kind of the same, if you aren't blitzing. look to see if you recognize a route before it breaks. you want to be able to cut in front before the throw is made. just think like your opponent, like when would you throw the ball, and to whom. then, just jump the route. | |

| I Just posted something earlier on another site for a guy that wanted to know how to user control the secondary so I'll repost it here. Warning its pretty long. Chosing who and how to user your secondary depends on a few things. What base coverages do you run? How do you set up your Nanos out of those Coverages? What areas of the field do those coverages give up and what part of the field is your opponent attacking? IMHO the SS is the Most Important Position in the Secondary.
No matter what base coverage you run the SS has one of the harder assignments in each coverage. Cover 2 he has to cover the TE to the Inside and still be able to make the play at the sideline. Cover 3 he still has to cover TE/Slot streak without direct over the top support from the FS and has to step down into the box for run support. Cover 1 he has to man up on Slot, TE, or HB and that is the player people mainly pass to in Cover 1. Cover 4 Has to cover up tight to the TE to stop the quick Bullet Streak Pass. On Top of all of that the SS is one best positions to send in Nanos. You need a player here who can get to the QB and avoid a pancake if he gets blocked somehow.
Personally I run a 3-4 Cover 3 Nano Base. Any team this year can run a cover 3. You can have LBs in at CB and still run a cover 3. Deep Zones just can't be beaten over the top like last year. the only way Randy Moss beats Nick Harper on a streak in a Cover 3 is if he misses the swat or pick or you wait 5 secs to throw the ball like 65 yards in the air. The only reason that even works is because the CB turns around to face the QB after he builds his cushion back up and slows down then has to turn around again to run with the WR.
Anyways so in a Cover 3 you have a Choice, user the FS or SS. If you user the FS you can play short coverage then normal and overload the short middle zones if they don't have any deep middle routes. You can also get the 9th person in the box faster for run support because the CPU FS will be dropping back for 2ish seconds depending on awr and play rec on all running plays. On the flip side if you try to jump a 12 yard In or other crossing route in the middle and your opponet decides to hold onto the ball and hit the deep post its a TD. If you bite on a PA Counter or Strech its a TD. To me the advantages don't exceed the risks of Playing the Deep Center. And on most deep middle passes you have plenty of time to click on and make the play.
Playing the SS is where u get all the rewards for your user skills without the major risks if you blow your coverage. With a Base 3-4 Cover 3 the SS play almost the same zone as the LOLB. Most times on like 5 yard outs from the TE or Slot you see them right next to each other covering the same guy. This means that you can freelance with the SS pretty much anyware on the field with a 3 man rush. You're going to give the Qb all day to pass but you can manually cover that zone busting route combination without worrying about other parts of the field. When you blitz the LILB you can use the SS to cover both zone responsibilities of the LILB and the SS allowing you to cover the whole field and put pressure on the qb without sacraficing coverage. When you dont have to worry about any deep coverage assignments you can play underneath every route in your zone. You dont have to not let anyone pass you, you want to get infront of recievers as soon as possible right from the LOS. The main thing is learning how far underneath you can play certain routes and still be in position to make the pick. I bait people by playing right at the edge of the range that my player will still make the Rocket Catch animation and people try to test your User Pass Coverage and just stare down the pick the whole way then get pissed and quit. Some of these Ints I get are so simple they just throw it right too me. Alot of people like to throw those slot streaks and those are super hard to stop because the pass is so fast. If you're infornt of the Reciever you have no chance at the pick unless its like a 25yd pass. By being able to play underneath if easy to shutdown because they see all that space in front of their TE/WR and its their reaction to throw. Presnap when I user the SS I always Playmaker to a hookzone so he doesn't start moving to the flats kinda at the snap and I move my SS Heads up on the TE about a yard behind the LBs depth. Not moving too close to the LOS is very important. Like explained above in a post I play run support inside out scraping down the line mirroring the HB. If you play to close you're going to get caught up in the trash and blocked or bumping one of your own men. The reason I don't play "Outside-In" in run support is because I dont want the ball carrier moving up the field at all. Making a tackle after overpursueing and the back cuts up field is extremly hard. You have to hope a LB becomes unblocked to make the tackle and even if he does make the tackle forward momentum is going to get them atleast 2-3 yards. When people see they can bounce a run outside they just turbo over there and once i get close in pursuit just run straight east and west to the sideline to outrun my SS. This gives my CB time to get out of his deepzone and get unblocked by the wr and lets my FS get a correct pursuit angle to stop the huge play should his HB break a few Tackles. Mose of the time i meet the Ballcarrier right before the number on the field and get the lowerbody/ankle/shoestring tackle. Tackles from those angles dont gget broken all that much but in the even they do most of those animations have decent recovery time and he's still running towards the sideline while doing that giving me time to click onto the CB and cleanup the play and limit him to 2 yards or so. The main thing is once you get to know what your saftey can do and get used to his speed you can shut down the run from a bad base run defense. When it comes to selecting where to position players in your secondary Slower Players can play deep coverage so 82 ish speed is ok for your FS and CBs so i try to get 89-90 speed atleast and also atleast 5'11" and I dont really worry about tackling because if you can't get to the play you can't make a big hit and when i need a fumble I go for the strip. Here are some sleepers that I use at SS. Raiders - T. Branch - SS 6'0" 68 Ovr 93 Spd Dolphins - C. Clemons - SS 6'1" 63 Ovr 92 Spd Jaguars - D. Cox - CB 6'1" 68 Ovr 91 Spd Redskins - D. Cary - CB 6'1" 58 Ovr 90 Spd Anyways there are a ton of guys like that on different teams. Well the USC-Ohio State game is at 1:11 in the 4th and USC just scored to go ahead and i just realized this post is like really really long so I'll end it here but let me know what you think. | |

| SS sleep on the raiders.. i would much rather use the rookie mitchell than T.Branch. He has a 93 hit power and will make you cough up the ball | |

| I play safeties, and you just gotta kind of see the whole field to play safety. I usually am switching between FS and SS, and occasionally use LB or Dlinemen. Just set up good defenses, know where ur players are going to be in zones or if they are in man, and just watch where you would throw the ball. In man, its good to stay a little off the WR, cuz its hard to keep up with them. | |

| I like to control the LBs to take away the middle of the field or short passes. | |
