Microsoft prepares to drop the price on its mid-range Xbox 360 model




There have been rumors swirling around the internet for the past week that Microsoft would drop the price of its Xbox 360 Pro system from $349.99 to $299.99. The speculation was fueled by leaked ad scans from various brick and mortar retailers.
The price cut is all but confirmed by new GameStop signage which was forwarded to Engadget and Joystiq. The internal store memo shows that the price of the Xbox 360 Pro will fall to $299.99 on Sunday, July 13.
Further confirmation came today from a leaked Best Buy Sunday ad which also shows the new $299.99 price as a "$50 Price Drop". Target is going even further by not only mirroring the $299.99 price tag, but also tossing in a $25 Target gift card instantly with the purchase of an Xbox 360 Pro.
Interestingly enough, there is no word on a price cut for the current low-end Xbox 360 Core system which is priced at $279. With only $20 separating two consoles, sales of the Core are likely to take a huge dive unless Microsoft makes complementary price cuts to the system.
Microsoft last cut the price on the Xbox 360 Pro back in early August, 2007. At that time, the price was cut from $399.99 to $349.99.

i heard about the price drop n my cousin went to buy a 360 elite to play rb6 as a pro. he already is playing beyond,but even with the price drop u still shell out serious cash.MS IS A RIPOFF. The elite costs $450. but to go online he needed a headset which u can only use microsofts headset(dumb i knw) $20 for wired n 60 for wireless. then come to find out since hes not by a computer he has to buy a wireless adapter. again only microsofts adapter $100, n if he wants to play hd dvd he has to buy the hd dvd acessory $50. o yeah n to keep from buying batteries he buys a play n charge kit $20. now guess wat, he has to play online to go pro dat means another $50 bucks. lets add this up shall we.

MS brand wireless head set...crape, to much feed back... where's the blue tooth?
on line play.... you have to pay, thats adds another... lets say $200 to the system price in 4 yrs and half of that time your with out your system because it's being repaired.

MS, will release a 360 slim next year and "hopefully" the system flaw we'll be a thing of the past... since someone else is designing the motherboard and drive. The Valhalla chip will be the heart of a complete hardware revision.

hmm MS is learning from sony to go slim. Go figure LOL. u learn from the best right.

Yeah! thats right... MS is going slim as well and "possibly" well make a reliable system with the Valhalla chip 360 slim "3 yrs 2-late". As for alot of PPL including myself, thats playing b3yond because of multiple 360 failures... going back to the MS brand might not be a option because of past endeavors with the system.

Well if you ask the game devolopers... they say the 360 architecture is easier to design games for, thous, some games at this time are a little better on the 360 but once the developers truly get the hang of the cell "watch out" the developers also say the ps3 is the Superior system... meaning it has the most potential in the long run. I honestly like both systems, I personally think competition makes you better and this apply to the gaming world as well but I like my system to run for longer than 3 months at a time and at this time, thats just not the case with the 360, on average.
