MS/Forumotion Update

the site that hosts our forums, Forumotion, has just installed some updates, and you may notice a few new things, as well as a few bugs in the next few days. Here is the message from Forumotion about the update:

Dear Forumotion members,

Here is right now the update you've all been waiting for!
No need to say more, just look below for the brand new features (you'll also see attached for most of them their tutorial ) :

1 - Login pop-up

Can display in a pop-up for login, to provide a fast connection for members or rapid registration for the guests.

The admin can add a personal message to the pop-up.

2 - Flood Control

Allows the admin to limit the creation of threads, posts or private messages.
It's calculated in seconds and the maximum value is 999 999 seconds, or 277 hours or 11.5 days

3 - Multi-quote

This
option allows you to display or not, a multi-quote button. Now it will
be easier to quote several posts at the same time. This button operates
on the principle of selection / deselection.

4 - Scrolling announcements

One
of the most promising in terms of evolution possibilites. It displays
annoucements in the form of text or images, on portal, forum, or all
pages of the forum.

Announcements can scroll left, right, up or down at speeds decided by the admin. In addition, they may also mark a
time-out and the admin can also define the horizontal or vertical space between each listing.

5 - Points System (similar to cash mod)

The points system is a system based on different criteria and allowing users to evaluate themself or even to compete.

Activate it in Modules -> Point System

How are points calculated?
- Points generated by the number of posts
- Points generated by the number of topics created
- Points generated by the number of friends that the user has
- Reputation points
- Points generated by the registration date of the member
- Points generated by the number of message on his profile

The board administrator can change many settings for this feature.
For the creation of messages and topics, he can change the gain of points for each forum.
To
make the points system even more attractive, they can create levels of
points from which they have a "rank" that the admin can define.
The field points can be displayed either on the profile, either in messages or both. The name of the field can also be changed.

6 - Reputation system :Evaluation + "Thanks" Button (similar to karma mod)

The reputation system, as you have noticed, is a sub part of the points system. It also works with points.

In
each posts, if the feature is activated, small buttons to rate the post
will be apparent. Each positive or negative rate can make you win or
lose reputation points.
The number of points won or lost can be modified and can be customized for each categories.
The
button "Thanks" allows a member who created a topic to thank the user
who wrote the message that it considers most appropriate. The post then
appears highlighted.
Check
out in your admin panel : Display > pics management > advanced
mode > buttons > Please make sure you've got buttons for this
functionality.

The field points can be displayed either on the profile, either in messages or both. The name of the field can also be changed.
In addition, several options related to reputation are intended to limit
the use of this feature according to certain criteria (see the admin panel).

7 - Advanced Profile

The advanced profile is a "remake" of the vBulletin profile.

There are different tab such as:
- The user messages: You can write a message on the profile of a member.
- The friends list.
- Statistics.
- Contact information: You can contact the member.
- The fields of the profile

This feature can be disabled, then the simple profile (current one) that will be displayed.

8 - Profile fields
Tutorial : in progress

We
have also changed the management of the fields in the profile. We have
enhanced the functionality to adapt to the advanced profile.
You can activate it in : Users & groups > Profiles > Profile fields

8 - Avatars in members list

You can now see all your users avatars while browsing the members list

umm can u change it so that the admins chose the madden cash and mini banners in the user's profiles

right now i can put however much $ i want and i can chose if im and admin, site artist, member, mod, video creator, etc

In other words...

Forumotion just took all vbulletin's features...

I think its because you still have all the admin abilities.

naw, it was all messed up before. for some reason all the regular members could change their site rankings and madden cash, and admins couldnt. all the settings were correct, so i couldnt understand it.

all i did was restore it back to default, and then put the settings back the way they were and it worked.

but we decided to scrap the Madden Cash system. we're adopting a new points/reputation/thanks system instead.

When is this going to be in effect? Also, why cant I click memberlist?

I know the Titans Message board has rep. A feature I've alway liked.

the memberlist is screwed up as part of the update, expect a patch in the next few days.

yeah cause the titans can afford vBulletin...

vBul is the best messageboard software, cept it's a lot more complicated, so besides me I'm not sure anyone here could set it up (I have set it up, so...). Most people can't unless they have someone teach em the first time...

But it also costs $80 a year or a lot more than $100 for a lifetime liscense...

So you need some cream...

But even though MS could probably afford it, Forumotion doesn't port to other databases...

So all 3000 some members, all the threads, all the posts, everything would be lost if we switched.

Which is why we don't switch, I think a long time back we all talked about it but came to that same conclusion...

and back then it wasn't quite this established.

what do the points determine? cuz i got 8

u gotta bring Madden School cash back, cuz these points are determined by the threads and posts you make, instead of whether you deserved to get points or not. The points isn't really a rep thing, but more of a who can post more thing.

the old cash system may be better but it is impossible to manage now. with almost 4000 members, we had to update everything manually as we continue to grow, we won't be able to handle that. we can still add points, but most of the points are added by the computer automatically.

k, but with these, how are we gunna have ppl buy mini ebooks and lessons?

we take away points when they buy

k, so its gunna take alot of points to buy a mini ebook and stuff right? also plz watch for the spaml, cuz this is gunna get alot of ppl hype cuz they can spam to get an ebook.

ya it will take a lot, and most of our old cah system was based on posts anyway. we have been controlling spam for a long time, and with the abilities of the moderators to ban and delete everything, spam will be reduced

hey guys...speaking of points. i had 90 madden cash before the change over. now i only have 8 points. what's happening?

Since the update every time you post you will receiver a point. I hope we can change it to like 25 posts for 1 point or something.

We could also start auctioning schemes or e-books for points.

ooohhhh, an auction? nice

we dont need to reduce the points per post number because it will take something like 500 points to get a scheme or mini ebook.

the break down is pretty much:
1 point per reply except for in the general section (which you get 0 points for)
5 points for making a thread in the offensive section
5 points for making a thread in the defensive section
6 points for making a thread in exclusive section
3 points for making a thread in other sections (except for general section)
2 points for replying to a post in Introduce yourself


and mili, we scrapped Madden Cash completely so we could adopt this new system. its just a little something that we hope people find "fun", or rather something to keep them interested, involved, and active.

I can understand scrapping the MS cash system, but why isn't the "cash" converted to points??? I don't see why I have to start at 0 points with some scrub that joins the site today....

Also, WHO THE **** CHANGED THE TEAM I'M REPPING TO THE RAIDERS??? I DON'T WANT ANY FUCKING ADMINS ON MY ACCOUNT CHANGING s*** AROUND...

no admin or mod did that, jus happened on its self since of new update, lol mine got changed to browns no big deal rob

and the points aren't that big of a deal. its just something we hope that keeps SOME people active and interested. so its not like it means ANYTHING if any "scrub" signs up and they have the same amount of points as you.

besides - the madden cash was messed up for everyone when we got updated, so it made sense to get rid of it. we all start with 0 points.
