Playmaker?

I thought that this was taken out of the game but last nite a guy did this to me online.I looked it up in the instruction manual on PS3 and if you hold L2 and use the right stick it is the playmaker.Its awkward at first but it works.I dont use it and dont like it.I was hoping this feature was taken out but thats not the case.
