New Orleans PB breakdown Empty

Orange = Formation
Light blue = Play
White = Play breakdown

I Form Big (scheme)
For this scheme, u want to put the plays fb dive, fk fb dive hb toss, and hb lead toss in your audibles. The way this scheme works, is by having runs that are effective agains all types of defenses in your audibles, and keeping the defense honest with a pa play. I also like to use the dual hb package when running this scheme.

I Form Big
PA FB Flat
This is the play that you want to come out in every single time when running this scheme. When running this play, hike the ball and look to hit ur fb as soon as u can. If he is covered, look for the TE 1 running the in route over the middle, your third read would be the skinny post run by the TE 2 and ur last read is the streak being run by the WR. This is the play that will keep the defense honest from committing to the run every time.

I Form Big
FB Dive
To me, this is one of the better fb dives in the game and its very hard to lose yardage with it. This would probably be the first play from the scheme that i would try to establish. The way i run this play is to hold turbo as soon as the play starts and run run right up the gut. Now remember that you aren't coming out in this play, but audibling to it from the PA FB Flat play.

I Form Big

Fk FB Dive Hb toss
Start audibling to this play when you notice the defense starting to bring everyone in the box to stop ur fb dive. If the defense run commits when ur running this play, it usually turns out to be a big gain, and u will almost always be one on one with a cb.

I Form Big
Hb Lead Toss
This toss is really effective. It is the second run that i try to establish against my opponent. I try to make him respect both the Fb Dive, and this toss, and i audible back and forth between this and the fb dive depending on what i see in the defense. Basically u want to run this play as is, and dont hit turbo right away. Wait for ur blocks to develop.

conclusion: this is an extremely effective scheme, that makes ur opponent account for 4 different types of plays out of the same formation. There is no way he will know what play u are doing because you are giving him the same look every time. Note that this scheme can be applied to all types of different formations. U can run similar schemes out of strong I twin te, and most other two back formations. Go find the one which suits u best.

Now on to shotgun!!!

Shotgun Normal
PA Deep Post
Ok this right here, is my one play TD. If i absolutely need to score, this is the play i would run. First off, have ur fastest receiver on the left, running the Deep Post route. Ok now ur ready to set it up. First, streak the slot receiver. Then, Cancel the PA by making the running back block. Next, put the Flanker (receiver on the right side) on a drag, and motion him left. Finally, u can either put the TE on slant to the inside or keep him in to block for better pass protection. Snap the ball, Wait a few seconds and throw a high bullet pass to the receiver running the Deep post. your other options are the slant by the TE, the quick drag to the outside by ur flanker, or the slot receiver running a streak to throw a jetpack or rocket catch to.

Shotgun Normal
Saints HB Screen
Ok... A lot of people are having great trouble scoring in the redzone, and HB screens are a great way to attack the defense in the Red zone. When running this play, i kind of like to roll out the the right side, wait a second or two, and then throw a bullet pass to the Rb. After the running back has the ball, i follow my blockers, and try to pick up as many yards as possible. This play is most effective agains zone coverage, which is what most people play in the redzone. Lab this play a few times and youll see how effective it can be.

Shotgun Normal
Saints Qk Screen
This is another nice screen play. Roll out slightly to the left until ur blockers are near the receiver then throw a bullet pass to the receiver, and follow your blocks. Once again, this play works best against zone coverage.

Shotgun Slot Strong
Deep Post
This play, is quite possibly one of the best plays in the entire game. The routes, and the way they work with each other, is extremely effective against both man and zone. first thing i like to do when running this play is to streak the SE (the receiver on the left side of the field.) Now what you have is an overload of routes going to the same side of the field. against man, the tight end drag route will be your most effective route, but the deep in is also extremely deadly. When throwin the Deep in route, throw a high bullet pass to the receiver as soon as he makes his cut. against zone, i like to read from the bottom, up which means my Hb in the flat is my first read, then my drag route, by the tight end, then my deep in by the slot receiver, and finally either the depp post by my flanker or the streak by my SE. One of the routes will always be open, against all types of zones. If you want, you can also keep your running back in to block for better pass protection. I also like to package my fastest receiver at the Flanker position, because the Deep post is so effective with a receiver with 95 speed or above.

Shotgun Slot Strong
TE Middle (Streak Corner Concept)
Ok one of the most effective concepts i have found in the game of madden is the Streak Corner Concet. In the play TE Middle you have the slot receiver running a corner route and the Flanker running a streak. What i do when running this play, is motion the Flanker to the left, and as soon as he passes the slot receiver i hike the ball. This causes the Flanker to any safetys playing deep and the corner route will always be 1 on 1 vs. 2 man under plays, and will usually be wide open against zone coverage, because the safety has to deciede whether to cover the guy running the corner route or the streak, and obviously he will cover the streak so the cornver will always be wide open vs. cover 2 or cover 3. On cover 4, i like to hit the rb in the flats or the te over the middle on this play. Practice this concept and see how effective it is. It also even more effective if you have a tall receiver running the corner route.

Shotgun 4wr
Circle
Ok i love this play because it has two of the most effective routes in the game of madden it it. The crossing route, and the Deep Out route. When i come out in this play, i like to have my fastest receiver at SE running the crossing route, and my tallest/highest jumping receiver running the deep out route. I also hot route the left slot receiver who is running the fade route to a drag, and i keep the running back in to block. Now im ready to hike the ball. If i read zone, i look to either hit the crossing route, or the drag route whenever they open up, and if its man, I throw to either the drag, crossing, or Deep out route. now there is a certain way to throw the deep out route, to make it one of the most effective routes in the game. When i hike the ball, im going to roll out slightly to the left, wait a little while until the Flanker cuts to the outside, and then i throw a bomb (not a bullet) with pass percision up. I know this may seem kind of strange but what happens is, The defender covering my flanker, cannot really make a play on the ball, because my receiver will automatically go into a jumping rocket catch animation. Try this out a few times until you can get it right.

Shotgun 4wr
PA Deep Outs
There goes those deep out routes again. When running this play, i cancel th PA by keeping my running back in to block and look to throw the high bomb to either of the receivers running the Deep out. Keep in mind this is a lot more effective with a tall receiver who can jump, such as Vincent Jackson or Randy Moss. Also, this is more effective vs. man than zone.

Shotgun 4wr
Slot Flags and Smash Corners
On both of these plays, i use the Streak Corner Concept that i talked about in the shotgun slot strong Te Middle breakdown. Refer to it when running this play. Im sure u can figure it out.

Shotgun Empty 4wr
Slot Option
Here we go again with the Streak Corner Concept, except on this play, you also have the deadly crossing route going over the middle by the tight end. once again, i would suggest a tall fast receiver to be backaged at the right slot receiver position to run the corner route. I also like to have a fast tight end when running this play. I do make two changes to this play when running it. I hot route the left slot receiver running the option route to a drag ver the middle, and i streak the left outside receiver for a jetpack or rocket catch option. This is one of those plays that can be run all game long and you can still have success. The pass protection on this play isnt great though, so i would use it when you know the defense isnt going to blitz.

Shotgun Empty 4wr

Slot Crosses
This play is MONEY vs. man coverage, because the crossing routes will get picks and rubs, and you just look to see which one is more open. this play can also be money vs. zone if you know how to jetpack, becaus you have both of your outside receivers on streaks, and the jetpack is basically impossible to stop if your opponent is running zone on you. Sometimes i like to motin the TE to the right and hike it when he is under the center, to block the 3dl rush, or any other incoming a gap heat.

Shotgun Empty 4wr
Slot Zig Outs
Ok what i want you guys to focus on here are the zig zag routes being run by both slot receivers. These routes ALWAYS work agains man coverage, unless they are manually covered.against zone, this play isnt that great, but it absolutely kills man. The only adjustment i like to make is streaking both outside receivers, that way i have the jetpack option if they are in zone defense. I also like to package my tallest jetpacking receiver at the Flanker spot, and my fastest receivers at the slot receiver positions, so they can get more separation on the zig zag routes, and possibly some YAC yards.

Shotgun 5wr bunch
Openfield Drag
Ok this is another one of the best plays in the game imo. I dont make any changes to it except for occasionally blocking the R1/RB button Receiver (the one farthest inside on the right side). First off, the drag and crossing routes absolutely kill man out of this formation, because the set up many picks and rubs. Second, There will always be an open route agains zone with this play usually, the crossing, or deep in route. You just have to time your throws.

Shotgun 5wr bunch
In And Under
The routes on this play work very well against all times of coverages. The only change i make before the snap is motioning my O/B receiver (The farthest one on the right) to the left to turn his corner post route into a post corner route. Now i will walk you through the reads on this play. My first read is the receiver on the left running the fade route. He will often be open in the flat for a quick pass for 5 yards. Next, i look for my drag route underneath, then i look at the deep in which is money vs. man and vs. a few zones too. Next i look for the post corner route, which is always money, and finally I look to hit the blue route which is deadly against zone defense. Now this might sound like a lot of reads, but if you practice it it becomes second nature.

Shotgun 5wr bunch
Twin Streaks and Slot Post Stop
There is one thing both of these plays have in common. The deadly zig zag route which i already described before. You can make whatever adjustments you want to these plays i just wanted to point them out because of that route, and how effective it is agains man coverage.

I hope, after reading this, you dont just use the plays that i mentioned but apply these concepts to all the plays and formations in your pb. I wanted to make this breakdown a little different and i wanted it to be helpful to everyone, not just people running the NO PB.

Dont forget to leave comments.

P.s. I know there arent many run plays described, and there arent any under center passing plays, but quite frankly, not many people are going to have success passing under center, and the run breakdown scheme i did, can be applied to every running two back formation in the game.
