Singleback Tight Flex Scheme.
Try to either use the Dual HB Package or get a good TE#2 in
at FB while running this scheme.
Here is how I label the WRs
SE SL1 OT OG C OG OT SL2 FL
QB
HB
Single Back Tight Flex
Play 1:
SB Tight Flex Slot Corner
Come out in I Form Normal HB Middle
Formation Shift Right
Formation Audible Right
Streak SL2
Send the SE
WR on an inward slant
Motion the FL out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow.
The FL is running a quick pass (hit after a 2-3 step drop), if the opponent bumps, the hb should be open in the flats, and if they manually cover the qp look for the corner route run by the SL1, its angle makes it very
effective. Lastly, if they come out in zone and bump either the corner or in-slant will be open, this is because the CBs must be in hook zones or flat zones to bump, leaving the corner or middle of the field open.
This is my base play.
Play 2:
SB Tight Flex Slot Corner
Come out in I Form Normal HB Middle
Formation Shift Right
Formation Audible Right
Pull the RB’s route
Streak SL2
Send the SE
WR on an inward slant
Motion the TE out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow
Here you look for the FL as a quick pass, then if they bump look to hit your hb on his angle route out of the backfield. If they drop down to guard these with the SS look for the corner route. Lastly, for zone make the same reads as for the regular slot corner play, except the HB will be open most every time.
Another possible adjustment is putting the FL on a fade, this route along with the corner route will force the D to spread their safeties, this makes the HB even more open, and impossible to manually guard will covering anything else.
Play 3:
I Form Normal HB Middle
Shift Right
Put the SL 2 on an out-slant
Put the SL1 quick-out
Streak the SE
Motion the TE out, all the way left, then back to the right, snap with one arrow.
First look for the HB, he should be open in man coverage. If you have run plays 2 and 3 enough the player should be watching either the left or the middle of the field leaving him open to the FLs corner route and SL2’s out-slant. Lastly, the quick out and slant combo kills zone.
Play 4:
I Form Normal TE Quick Hit
Come Out in I Form Normal HB Middle
Audible to I Form Normal TE Quick Hit
Pull the RB’s routes
Shift Right
Send the SL2 on an in-slant
Send the SE on an out-slant
Motion the TE out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow.
This time three routes require manual guarding the HB’s angle route, the SL1’s waggle route, and the FL’s angle route. Against a bump look for the HB and FL on their angle routes, against zone watch for the SE and HB to over load the middle, while the FL and SL2 over load the right.
Play 5:
I Form Big Short Slants
Come Out in I Form Normal HB Middle
Formation Shift Down
Formation Audible Up
Formation Shift Right
Smart Route the FL
Send the SE on an out-slant
Motion the TE out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow
Your first read is the HB, but your primary read is the FL,he will beat almost all defenses. If he and the HB are covered look for the SLs to cross over the middle setting a pick and further clearing the middle for the HB.
Play 6:
Single Back Tight Flex PA Waggle
I Form Normal HB Middle
Formation Shift Right
Formation Audible Left
Smart Route the FL
Send the SL2 on a Deep-IN
Smart Route the SL1 WR
Send the SE on a fade route
Smart Route the HB
Motion the TE out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow.
The FL is running an unbumpable route, look for him a lot. If the defense is blitzing they are probably running bump and run leaving the FL open, if they aren’t blitzing, they are probably dropping DL back into coverage, therefore the HB will be open on his delayed route. The crossing route run by the SL1 is really hard to cover in man, clears out the middle for the HB, and pull in the FS to allow the SE to be open in most zones.
Play 7
I Form Normal HB Dive
Come out in I Form Normal HB Dive
Formation Shift Right
Motion the TE out, all the way left, and then back to the right, snap with one arrow.
Simply run forward, don’t try to take it outside, just use this to keep the defense honest.
As a side note, these are the same base plays run by everyone using a scheme like this who doesn't rely on unbumps, it is my hot routes that make this scheme unique.
