Alright alright, a lot of people have had trouble running the ball in this years game, and I'm here to say, it's not harder it's just different, more realistic rather. So read on young friend, I'll explain how to stick your cleat in his mouth and run!
Starting off... with Pre Play -
So in this years game, good blocking is crucial, I reccomend ALWAYS come out with a fullback (but you can make exceptions when running strongside, don't do it much though). The fullback usually means you will get at least back to the line on runs up the middle, because you will almost always have somebody to stop a blitzing linebacker. On outside runs, the fullback will make it much easier to get the the sideline.
Also, SHIFT YOUR BLOCKERS! It's LT + Direction on 360, either L2 or L1 on PS3. On anything inside (including Power O plays) use the aggressive blocking. Because instead of your linemen waiting for a defender to hit him, if nobody rushes he will go take out a linebacker. For runs outside or off tackle, Shift blocking the direction your running, I guess you can figure out why, it's a pretty simple concept.
Once it's snapped -
So you've got your formation all set up, good, good. Now you just need to execute the play. Which is also a lot different from previous years. Remember when you just held down the right trigger and followed your blockers? Not so simple. So what you need to do is, don't mindlessly sprint. Wait till you know where your going... So say I do the play "Inside Zone" out of the basic I-Form, pretty basic play, I'm sure you've seen it before... Alright, so what you've got to do once you snap it, is find your hole, the play is designed to go between the RG and the RT, the flow of the play will be moving that way(aggressive blocking shift though). Once the back gets the ball, don't sprint, and scan the O-Line for holes. Since the play is already moving to the right, it will be easy to go right, and then you make the choice of up the middle or off tackle, both are usually available for decent yards. And the fullback's blocking just owned any blitsing linebacker. Just make sure, don't sprint until you know where you're going.
Now for outside runs, you know where you're going. Sprint like a mofo. Just follow the blockers, and make sure you do end up getting upfield.
Jukes, Spins, Stiffarms, all that jazz -
For rushing moves like this, while your sprinting you just want to let up on the trigger as you pull the move. I don't know why the devs made it this way, but I guess the moves work better when you're not sprinting. So if the dotted lines are you holding the trigger it should look like this; -----spin---- and it will work better than just holding the trig.
Just somthing to do for the hell of it, there's is that new "break out move" feature. So on your way down, just press any random button on your way down, you might break out of the tackle.
Plays that work better than others -
If you're having a problem, it might be a combintation of things,
and I bet you a big part of it is the plays you call. On inside runs,
it's pretty simple, only real need here is a lead blocker. But on
outside runs and off tackles, you will want space. And toss plays give
you way more space between the defenders than handoffs, because if you
do say, hb stretch, it is real easy to get tackled at the line for a
number of reasons, mainly because your so close to the D-Linemen.
Just toss it out, you've got more time to work your magic and you will get out to the sideline better.
A few inside runs are pretty much money plays on the goal line, anything to your fullback, or QB sneak, but don't cheese and do them every play, it wouldn't work every play anyways.
(prob should've put that up top, but whatever.)
and now, just the General Tips ESSENTIAL -
*Make sure you get upfield in time, because on outside plays if you don't turn upfield you WILL lose yards.
*Find your hole, get to the hole, and still be looking where to go next, if your running left and the whole right side of the field is wide open, cut it back. But if not just keep heading downfield. You'll need to just run downhill more often.
*Use your back for what they're made for.... Marion Barber isn't made to run outside, sub FJ in, but most backs who have the speed weapon are durable enough to run up the middle, so go ahead and run up the middle with westbrook(he gets injured easy too, but buckhalter will be able to do decent"
*DON'T ABANDON THE RUN! So if your first few runs didn't work, don't abandon the run altogether. Just pass a few more to make the D respect you passing game, then your run will be somewhat open because he won't be blitzing.
So uh, sorry I didn't have the fancy ass pictures and stuff, I'm not cool like that.
I'll be improving this guide REGULARLY, so check back every so often.
