User picks

ok so im pretty good at user picking, i get to the area where the ball will be, i strafe, i hold Y. but for some reason i only catch it 1/3 of the time, why is this?

I played a dude yesterday that picked me off like 4 times and i think it was all computer. Is the computer actually really good at picking??
