Madden 10 NYJ Defense Mini-Guide

Formations covered: 3-4 normal, 3-4 over, 3-4 predator, 3-4 solid, nickel odd split, nickel 1-5-5, Nickel 3-3-5, Dollar and Quarters Normal

3-4 Normal any play blitz

Setup:
Pinch D-line
Reblitz All D-linemen
Blitz one of your MLB’s and put him between one of the DE’s and DT
**OPTIONAL** Slide your LB’s to the left and blitz the LOLB. Now he has a slanted blitz angle. Move him closer to the guard and watch the havoc come into the backfield time after time.

Note: You can also control the LOLB while he’s blitzing and manually drop him into pass coverage. Sometimes this eliminates the “Pinch O-line pre-snap adjustment” and allow you to get through with only 4 or 5 men rushing.

How we set this play up is designed to stop guys from hitting the flats or going to the corner routes all game

Setup #1:
Put MLB into deep blue zone
Spread coverage
Put the #1 CB into a purple zone
Put the ROLB into man coverage with the HB
Put the LOLB into a hook zone
PRESS coverage

This play has great coverage all over the field and guards the flats/corners. User a safety so that fade routes don’t hurt you.






Setup #2:
Man up the #1 CB onto the #1 WR
Put the ROLB into a flat zone and move him over a bit to the right to make up for having the CB in man coverage
Put the LOLB into a hook zone
PRESS coverage

This will slow down the passes to the #1 WR that people do and will also slow down pass to the flats.

3-4 Normal: Wide Blitz

This is a play I like to call the “Vick Stopper”. Playing guys who use the eagles and put Vick in just to scramble out gets annoying, so here’s a play I came across that stops him.

Setup:
Put the RE in a contain(have someone fast here)
Put the MLB in the purple zone in a flat zone, and move him over to the left
Re-blitz the LOLB and move him closer to the line
Re-blitz the MLB and move him close to the line, and to the inside of the RE
Move the blitzing ROLB to the outside of the blitzing RE. Make sure you re-blitz him


Now if you look closely at this blitz, it only has 5 guys blitzing. But there is a DE who drops back into coverage, but before he does that, he acts as if he will come in and rush the QB. This throws off the guard and allows the LB or CB to rush in and get to Vick, making him scramble to the other side where you have a contain and he will get flustered and try to dump it off, but the CB is in a flat zone and Vick isn’t good on the run.












3-4 Over any play blitz
Setup:
Pinch D-line
Reblitz All D-linemen
Blitz one of your MLB’s and put him between one of the DE’s and DT

3-4 Over: Sting Pinch Zone

This is a surprise blitz that people hate because of how good it is.

Setup:
Re-blitz your blitzing MLB
Put him between the DT and right DE
Re-blitz the DT



3-4 Over: Cross Fire 3
**NOTE** NOT A NANO
This is a great blitz to use on your opponent, but sadly it isn’t a nano. It has great coverage and is more of a shotgun blitz than a blitz to use when under center

Setup:
Slide LB’s left
Re-blitz LOLB
Show blitz
Re-blitz blitzing MLB
Put him between DT and blitzing DE
Control blitzing LOLB or MLB in hook zone


3-4 Over: Trio Sky Zone

Great run stopper.

Setup:
Man up the LB in the purple zone with the HB
Slide the LB’s right
Re-blitz the ROLB
Re-blitz the DT
Show blitz


3-4 Solid: Any play blitz

Setup:
Pinch D-line

3-4 Solid: Clamp Double Go

Run stopper.

Setup:
Re-blitz both blitzing MLB’s
Put them between the DT and DE’s
Re-blitz blitzing DE
Man up the ROLB with the HB

Nickel Odd Split: Crash 3


Setup:
Blitz the DT
Pinch the Dline
Blitz the ROLB
Put him about 1 or 2 yards behind the DT and RE
Control the blitzing DB and move him closer to the line of scrimmage

Nickel Odd Split: Storm Red

This is a crazy blitz to throw your opponent off. Outside pressure as well

Setup:
Blitz DT
Bring blitzing SAFETY closer to LOS
Control blitzing DB and bring him closer to LOS as well



Nickel Odd Split: Monster 3

Simple 5 man blitz that can have your opponent begging for mercy with this setup

Setup:
Blitz the DT and
Re-blitz blitzing ROLB and MLB
Put the ROLB on the inside hip of the DT
Put the MLB on the inside hip of DE.

Any Nickel Odd Split play
Setup:
Blitz the DT and LE
Re-blitz 2 LB’s and put them on the inside hip of the DT and LE












Nickel 3-3-5: 3 Man Under
F@G D play that stops a lot of things your opponent may try on you.

Setup:
Put all LB’s in hook zones.
Man up the MLB with the HB
Man up the safety with the TE or slot WR. If it’s a 4WR set, don’t man him up with anyone.
Control one of the HB’s in hook zones.

Nickel 3-3-5: Monster Blitz

WOW!! Great blitz even with the CB’s in hook zones which don’t allow those quick passes to the WR and stop the HB passes short as well.

Setup:
Show blitz
Pinch D-line down
Re-blitz LE and DT
If they come out of a 4 WR set where the ROLB doesn’t move closer, manually move him outside the RE
Re-blitz the ROLB


Dollar: Cover 3

This is a nice 5 man blitz.

Setup:
Blitz the LB’s
Re-blitz the DE’s and DT
Pinch the line down
Move the LB’s between the DE’s and DT.
Put one of the CB’s that’s in a flat zone, in a hook zone.

Watch the LB’s rush through the line for an instant sack.




Dollar: Cover 1 FS Robber

This isn’t F@G D, but it’s very close to it.

Setup:
Put the blitzing LB in a hook zone
Put the RE in a contain
Put the DT in a spy
Spotlight the HB
Show blitz

You have man coverage all around. You have a safety playing deep and 2 people playing the middle so it’d be hard for them to do anything against that. The man coverage slows the run game down.

Dollar: WK Eagle slant 3

This is a 6 man blitz, but with the plays you’ve used before, he will think it’s either F@G D or a blitz up the middle, but this will go to the outside.

Setup:
Blitz the DB in the purple zone.
Show blitz
Pinch the Dline
Move the blitzing DB inside the LE
Blitz the LE
Move the blitzing DB on the OUTSIDE of the RE (about 2 or 3 yards)


This setup looks like a lot, but it isn’t. You just have to do it as your opponent is getting to the line and you can finish it before they get to the line.


Nickel 1-5-5- SS zone blitz
Setup:
Re-blitz the DT
Re-blitz the 2 blitzing MLB’s
Put them on each side of the DT and close inside
Bring the SS close to the middle over the RG
User control the SS and hold the right stick to the right side(turbo blitz)

Nickel 1-5-5 Inside zone blitz
Setup:
Re-blitz the DT
Re-blitz the MLB
Re-blitz the LOLB
Bring the other LOLB over the RG and turbo blitz so that you engage with the blocker to the right

Nickel 1-5-5 DT blitz/Over Strom Brave
Setup:
Re-blitz all LB’s(using the button)
Re-blitz the DT
Show blitz
Control one of the MLB’s and move him right down on the line beside the DT



Nickel 1-5-5 Cover 2 sink
Setup:
Reblitz all LB’s(using L2 and the right analog)
Show blitz
Control the DT and turbo blitz to the left side so you engage in having the center block you to the left leaving a gap in the right side

For this play they might try some quick passes to the HB or to the WR’s on outside slants. The CB’s in hook zones prevents the quick passes to the WR’s and stalls the passes to the HB’s

Nickel 1-5-5 Cover 2 Sink (F@G D)
Setup:
Put the FS in a deep blue zone
Spread the coverage
Man up the MLB with the HB
Put the LOLB in a purple zone
Put the ROLB in a flat zone



Stopping the HB Direct Snap out of 1-5-5
Come out of SS blitz
Man up the DT, the LOLB and the ROLB(the blitzing ones) on the HB
Spotlight the HB

This makes it so he can’t cut outside and the other 2 blitzers has that middle stopped up as will as the DT blitzing


Quarter any play blitz
Setup:
Pinch D-line down
Re-blitz the whole Dline
Re-blitz the MLB
Put the MLB between the DT and one of the DE’s

trio sky zone (flipped, so that the FS is in the yellow)

1. Reblitz all LBs
2. Put LB on left side(next to FS) into purple
3. put both MLBs in the a gap between left DE and DT, Drop the one on the right into a yellow
4. reblitz the DT

thats a good pass stopper from that book
if they pinch the oline to block the agap guy(looks like a heavy overload) then the outside guy gets in free, if they block to the outside, then the middle comes free

Nice stuff man

id love to see someone play these plays on me.. so easy to stop

Looks like some really nice stuff mod, im gonna have to look inot it, im by no means a 3-4 guy but im willing to take a look.

Dawg excellent job on the scheme very detailed seems easy to follow. Will definitely give it a go today in practice mode first. Papasmurf it would me only appropriate that if you don't like the man's posting as far as defense is concerned then be respectful and remain silent or put some defensive plays up that you feel are better. He is attempting to help others which is what this site is for, but to totally disrespect what he is attempting to do isn't cool my man.

Understand that's not disrespecting you either but just be honest.
