Question for defensive minds Empty
PostSubject: Question for defensive minds   Question for defensive minds Empty2010-04-01, 20:06

ok i was online playing this guy today.. he ran the same play the whole game.. im not mad at him cause i would of done the same thing if he couldnt stop it...ok the play is hb slip screen in the split gun formation out of the run n gun.. the play is in one other playbook with the same set up but no in any others with the same set up.. ok hers the play.. you have your flanker on an automotion running a C corner route.. you have the slot Wr on a corner post route (where he does a move out to corner then breaks to post) you have your fb and an out route and your HB on a screen and the SE either blocking the screen or on a drag route..so you have 5 reads 2 deep and 3 short..also at the snap you roll hard to the side of the automotion with slide protection..ok i tried everything to stop this play.. blitzing corner, blitzing LB slanting the DE out, a spy on DE and blitzing LB but nothing completely stopped it...if i blitzed corner to put immediate preesure on qb the FB would end up wide open totally uncovered.. if you blitz LB you leave post open right away and if LB doesnt get there the C route just kills man and zone ( i think cause of the roll out but im not sure..) if you user the safety you stop that throw 2 the C but you possibly give up post or short throw.. i tried cover 1,2,2 deep, 3, 4 slowed the deep ball but was exposed underneath..in man the corner gets killed on the C route and if you hve a safety he cheats to the post..i have seen it in all three games i played today but just not as abused as the first guy did..owe and by the way on all zone coverage for this play if you have some1 in the flats and the QB rolls he immediately breaks toward the Qb leaving the flats wide open (even if you pre snap move him back..)) any help is much appreciated guys sorry this was so long but i wanted to get you all the info.....

I faced a guy just like that today. It wasn't the exact screen as that, but it was a screen so don't get mad at me if this doesn't work for the screen you're talking about.

What i used on him: I ran a base dollar cover 3, and i made it look like a nano. I contained both DEs and i spyed the DT. I changed the two CBs in blue zones to purple zones.
Hope this helps.

Question for defensive minds Empty
PostSubject: Re: Question for defensive minds   Question for defensive minds Empty2010-04-01, 21:17

Very nice money play. But don't worry. All plays have a counter.

My first suggestion is do not let the QB roll out. You can do this numerous ways.
1. Crash the D-Line out
2. QB containing with the DEs
3. CB blitzes
(or a combination of 2 or 3 of these)

Next lets talk about defending the screen. The screen can be defended different ways also.
1. Man Coverage (simplest, but may not always work)
2. Flat Coverage (try placing a DE on a blue route)
3. DE Contain (this actually does a decent job of covering quick screen passes)
4. User Coverage (Who can guard the screen pass better than you? Try being the DE on a blue route and getting underneath the pass blockers for any easy swat or pick)

Now for the deeper routes:
Out: Make sure you have a CB or LB in a buzz flat (purple route)
Post: Placing a safety on a hook zone can help; Also try placing the MLB on deep coverage (dark blue route)
Corner: This can also be covered by a buzz flat

These are all just suggestions. Here is a possible play set up:
Cover 2 Buc
1: Spread line
2: Contain RE
3: Place LE on Flat Coverage (user)
4: Place both inside CBs on buzz flats

Notes: Don't bother with B&R because you will not bump the automotion. The Post, Out, and C route should all be covered with this setup. Now all that is left is to defend the screen manually.

Practice FIRST! Practice mode is your friend.
Good Luck
