New York Giants Playbook 2009
Running the Ball
I believe how you run the ball, and what plays
you use is 100% up to you. Here are some of
the plays that I have used with this Playbook
and have had Good Success.
1. I-Form Pro Full Back Dive (Best Inside run in the Game Easy 3-4 yard
gain)
2. I-Form Pro ISO
3. I-Form-Tight Power O
4. Weak Pro Toss Weak (Best Toss Play In This Book)
5. Shotgun Split Slot HB Draw (Best Draw in the Game)
6. Gun Doubles Weak HB Draw
Singleback Ace Pair Twins Scheme
This is a compression set so it is easy to tell if your opponent is in man or
zone defense
U-drive
1. If you read man coverage, Hot route the running back to an out route
(triangle+triangle+right on d-pad PS3)
2. Snap the ball; Wait for the HB to get a little separation from his defender, The
HB is usually open for a good gain against man.
3. If your opponent is in zone, Hot Route the HB to a curl route, against most
zones he will be open for 5-6 yards.
X-Curl
this is my staple play out of this formation, because there are so many
ways to run it.
1. VS Man Coverage, Hot Route inside TE to a Streak, Snap the ball, wait for
the TE Running the corner route to make his break and pass lead right.
2. VS Man another way, Motion the running back left, as soon he passes the QB
snap the ball, let him get some separation and fire him the ball.
3. VS Zone, Hot Route the slot receiver to a curl route, either the slot receiver or
the TE running the slant curl will be open vs. most zones.
4. VS any defense, make no changes, The TE running the slant curl will usually
be open for a short reception
Y-stick
I usually use this play if I need short yardage 3-4 yards
1. Make no adjustments; hit the TE on the short curl route for a few yards
PA CTR Waggle
1. Make no adjustments; The TE running the delayed flat route will get open in
the flats, for a good gain.
PA Power O
I usually run this play if my opponent is playing man coverage, it works
well but the blocking isn’t that great. So use slide protection left.
1. Hot route the TE on the left to an outside slant. (Triangle+L1+left on right
analog)
2. Snap the ball, if your opponent is playing man the TE on the left will get wide
open on the outside slant route, pass lead left.
Singleback Bunch Pass Scheme
Deep Post
1. Snap the ball, the slot receiver running the in route is my first read. If this
doesn’t open up, the inside receiver running the slant curl is always open for a
short Gain
Spacing 1. Snap the ball, the Outside left receiver is always my first read. If his route
doesn’t open up, the outside right receiver is usually open for 2-3 yards. The
short curl is also good in short yardage situations.
Singleback Ace Pair Pass Scheme
Z spot
1. Snap the Ball, The Tight End running the Corner Route Will consistently be
open, pass lead right on d-pad when throwing. If for some reason he is not open,
the Outside right receiver running the slant curl will be.
PA Boot LT
1. Cancel Play action, Snap Ball, The outside right receivers route will get open
vs. almost all different coverage’s, watch him and fire the ball as soon as you see
him open.
I-Form Pro Pass Scheme
HB Choice
1. I use this play to throw exclusively to my HB. The HB will adjust his route
based on what coverage the defense is in, there for he will always get open. VS
most zones he will generally run a curl route VS man he will generally run an out
route. Very effective play
Z Spot 1. Snap the Ball, the outside left receiver running the post route is my first read,
he tends to get open fairly easy. My second read is the tight end running the
Corner Route. One of these routes should be open vs. most coverage’s. My last
read is the outside right receiver running the slant curl.
Corner Strike 1. Snap the Ball, my first read is the HB, most of the time you can hit him for a
quick pickup down the middle. Next is the Outside right receiver running C
corner route.
I-Form Pro Twins Pass Scheme
Hitch Corner
1. Snap Ball, My first read is the TE running the post route, If he doesn’t get
open the HB will be, he is running a smart route and will adjust his route based
on what the defense is running. Since this is a compression set it is easy to tell if
the defense is in man or zone, If your opponent is in man the HB will run an out
which is very effective against man coverage and he should be your first read.
I-Form Tight Pass Scheme
Mid Attack
1. Snap the Ball, The left TE will consistently be open running the curl route vs.
most coverage’s.
Z-Slant
1. I use this play if I need a 2-3 yard gain; just hit the left TE running the Short
Curl Route. He will be open for a quick 2-3 yards
Angle This is another play I use just to get the FB involved in the game. He is usually
open accross the middle for a 5-8 yard pick up, also very effective against the
blitz.
Flipping the Play This can be performed with any I-Form Tight Play.
1. Highlight the outside left receiver like you are going to send him in motion
2. Flip the Play, your receiver that you have highlited will the motion his way to
the other side of the field.
3. Once he gets passed the TE, push right on the d-pad, he will then go back to
his original position but his rote will be flipped, If the defense is in man coverage
he will be left uncovered for a quick hit
I-Form Tight Pair Pass Scheme
X-Slant
1. Snap the ball, The Outside left receiver is my first read and is usually open,
My second read is the TE running the Short Curl he is always open for 2-4 yards.
TE Post 1. Snap the ball, My first read is the TE running the post route, he gets open
fairly easy, if his route doesn’t open up, the TE running the drag accross the
middle will be open
Strong Pro Pass Scheme
F Angle
1. Snap the Ball, my first read is the TE running the out Route, If he doesn’t get
open the FB will be open across the middle
Strong Tight Pro Pass Scheme
PA Spot
I like to run the ball quite often out of this formation so it is important to be able to
pass from it just to keep the defense honest.
1. Cancel Play Action; Hit the TE on the short curl route for a quick gain of 2-5
yards.
Weak I Pass Scheme
PA F Slide
This is probably the most effective PA pass in this Playbook
1. Snap the Ball, The TE on the corner route will usually be open. Use pass
lead when throwing (hold right on d-pad when throwing to him.
Skinny Post
This another play I use to get the FB involved1. Hot route the TE to Block, Snap the ball, Let the FB complete his Curl route,
and fire him the ball.
RB Outs
The TE route on this play is a smart route that will adjust to the defensive
coverage; I use this play as one of my staple plays.
1. Snap the ball, Watch the TE as he makes his way down the Field, As soon as
you see him make a cut, hold up on d-pad and fire him the ball. It’s amazing how
often he will make the catch against all coverage’s
Passing Via Gun
Gun Split Slot Pass Scheme
Flood
1. No adjustments need, Snap the ball my first read is the slot running the deep
out route. My second read is the HB running the Blue curl Route.
Cross Weak Flood (Flipped)
1. Motion the HB on the left, to the right, snap the ball right before he gets set.
His underneath route will get open vs. almost any coverage. Especially effective
vs. man coverage.
Slants (Flipped)
1. Hot route the slant receiver to a curl. Snap the ball, the right receiver running
the slant is the 1st read, and is usually open. If he doesn't get open the curl
route will be.
PA F-Slide 1. Cancel Playaction
2. Hot route HB on the right hand side of your screen to a slant out, then motion
him to the right.
3. Snap the ball, the slot receiver has one of those routes that will get open
against virtually any coverage, he is your main read
689 Hook
1. Motion the FB on the right hand side to the left.
2, Snap the ball and let the HB running the curl route finish his route, then fire
him the ball while holding up on d-pad
Gun Doubles Pass Scheme
HB Screen
1. Motion the HB left, once he gets behind the center, snap the ball. This will
allow the blocking to set up, down field better.
Gun Doubles Weak Pass Scheme
Corner Strike
1. Snap the ball, the slot receiver slant route will get open at some point vs. any
coverage. The HB will also be open against man defense. This is one of my
favorite plays.
Flanker Dig
1. Motion the HB right, Snap the ball. His route will get open at some point VS
all coverage’s
Slot Post
1. Hot Route the HB to a drag Route, Snap the ball, the Slot running the Post is
your main read and gets open about 75% of the time. However if he doesn’t get
open don’t risk throwing an INT. Just dump it off to the TE running the short Curl.
Gun Y-Trips Weak Pass Scheme
Stick
1. Hot Route the slot receiver to a drag route.
2. Snap the ball, your first read is the TE running the Out, your next read is the
slot running the drag. If your defense is in man coverage the drag route will
tend to get open, and when you complete the pass you will have room to run.
Levels Switch
1. Snap the ball, The TE running the deep In Route is your first read. If it doesn’t
look like he will get open, the slot receiver running the in route will be open
619 Slant
1. Hot Route the TE to an outside slant (triangle+X+right on right analog)
2. Snap the ball, your first read is the TE, VS man coverage he will be all alone,
the slot receiver’s route creates a pick. VS zone your 2nd read is the HB running
the Curl Route
Gun Y-Trips Open Pass Scheme
Strong Flood
1. Snap the ball, the receiver on the left is consistently open at some point vs. all
coverage’s. This is probably my favorite play in this playbook
Stick
1. Snap the ball, the left receiver running the slant across the middle is your
first read. If he doesn’t get open the TE running the short curl will be open for a
short gain.
