| No, he is just upset because he was promised a contract Now he learns he will be a restricted free agent again And the Texans do not have plans to sign him long term as they promised
In his words he said
"I can't keep doing this one year thing"
It is going to happen to many players this year

| I agree but this damn CBA got the whole league All fukked up
We are gonna hear this more and more
Heck Demeco Ryan is in the same boat And don't get me started on other teams
The normal list of 200 plus free agents should be whittled down to 40 by the time all this s*** is through
That's 160 players that will be tagged, restricted and/or tendered
I am telling you it is gonna get crazy as we get closer
IMHO | |

| Here's the thing...if they don't fix this and we do go into a lockout, I fear the NFL will turn into the MLB! You remember when they had that lockout for over a season?? They never fully recovered from it, people turned from baseball and the players because it was about money not the love of the game! I feel the damn commissioner needs to step his s*** up and fix this ASAP! I love football, it's a way of life, it's AMERICAN, it's ME!! Thanks for reading! | |

dont blame the commish for this. 2 parties are at fault here. the NFLPA is to blame as well. both sides need to step there ish up so we dont get a lockout

| yea the commish has been willing to accept a deal to end a lockout from glooming upon the nfl
but apparently nflpa refuses to listen to the commishs demands or even attempt to make a compromised deal
hopefully some1 smart in the nflpa will say man the f up and lets get this sht done....otherwise small market teams are going to be doomed

| That is also one of the reasons nothing is being done right now Revenue sharing, the owners have not agreed to terms between themselves, much less the players If there is no revenue sharing then your right, the small market teams are gonna be doomed as 2Tonsofbuns indicated | |

| A lockout means no football, at all. The owners can't come to an agreement with the players so they lock the doors and close up shop. Kind of the opposite of a strike, where the players would refuse to work.
Nflpa is nfl players association, basically a workers union
A deal needs to be struck to decide things like salary caps, revenue sharing, player benefits etc. The collective bargaining agreement has expired and a new deal needs to be done by March 5th, 2010 or the provisional rules take over in which case a new deal needs to be done before play not this year 2010 but after the playoffs of the 2010/11 season to avoid a lockout. So although this years offseason will be funky, football will be played next season.
With NFL doing so well, I am sure an agreement will be reached before a lockout. Of course there is a lot more to it than this simple message can address.

| The biggest differences you will notice in the uncapped year are that teams have an additional franchise tag they can puit on a player. What does this mean, well let's say you have 3 players with expiring contracts. You can negotiate with them and more than likely come to terms with at least one, who will get a new contract. Then you can tag the other two and they cannot go out and shop around, so they now have a one year contract with their current team. That means you will lose no players to free agency.
The other is that without a salary cap, the big money market teams can afford to franchise these players as a franchise tag costs 20% more in compensation than the players previous year or the average of the top 10 contracts for that position in the league for the transition or provisional tag, and the avg of the top 5 for that position, or an additional 20% of the previous contract, for the franchise tag. Whichever is higher for both tags. Both expensive propositions.
Which is why you see Julius Peppers number so sky high, I believe 20million plus, this is not his value, but he had been previously tagged twice so take 12 mil and add 20% then add 20% again then add 20% again and you get an inflated number like 20 some million.
Another thing you will see is there is no longer a salary minimum which was I believe around 108 million for all players. Now some teams will let contracts expire and players go so they can get their team salaries low and they can pocket more profits. Although not many teams will do this as the fans just hate it.
So do you tag Julius Peppers, hell no, 20mill is way to high. How bout Darren Sharper, he is older, you don't want to give him a long term contract, tag him. Miles Austen has yet to hit his prime sign him long term.
A lot of the teams knew this was coming two years ago and have already planned for it. That is why I keep saying free agency will be Slim Pickens.

| I'll tell you what, if this goes south, arena football will be biger then ever! What a shame, money has ruined everything!! You know, speaking for myself, I'd play for the league minimum and be happy as hell man! The fans want to see football, they're going to shoot themselves in the foot if a deal is not done, I swear "history repeats itself". Like I stated earlier, you look at MLB, people who went through the lockout, a good % of them never gave them a second look. Football, I feel, it a lot bigger than MLB, but same rules apply! | |
