PS3 VERSION...work with it
1.
Step 1
Pick a quarterback with high DAC and THP ratings. The DAC rating
represents the quarterback's deep throw accuracy. The THP rating
represents his overall throwing power. If you pick a quarterback with
DAC and/or THP ratings that are too low, he will not be able to
consistently throw the right type of pass needed to perform the rocket
catch.
2.
Step 2
Pick a good rocket catching target. You typically will want to
throw to a wide receiver or a tight end, but running backs and
fullbacks are viable targets as well as long as they meet the rest of
the requirements. You will want to choose a tall receiver. A good
rocket catching target will be at least 6'3; a great target will be 6'5
or taller. If you cannot find a receiver that meets these requirements,
you may also be able to rocket catch with a receiver who is at least
6'1 and has a high (i.e., 90+) JMP rating. The high jump rating may
make up for the relative lack of height. Additionally, you want to make
sure your chosen receiver has good hands. This means his CTH rating
(catch) and his CIT rating (catch in traffic) need to be high,
preferably 85 or better.
3.
Step 3
Run a pass play that puts your rocket catching target on a streak
pattern. Alternatively, you can choose any pass play with which you are
comfortable and simply hot route your receiver to a streak (Triangle +
your receiver's icon + up on the D-pad).
4.
Step 4
Snap the ball. Manually take control over your quarterback right away so that you can steer him away from pass rushers.
5.
Step 5
Throw an outside bullet pass to your rocket catching target when
he is about 25 yards away. Throwing an outside bullet pass means
pressing and holding the button corresponding to your receiver's icon
and then, while still holding that button, pressing the outside
direction on the D-pad. That means if your receiver is lined up on the
left, press left on the D-pad. If your receiver is lined up on the
right, press right on the D-pad. It will take some practice to get the
timing down right.
6.
Step 6
Immediately click onto your receiver by pressing Circle. You will
see a large red target superimposed onto the field that represents
where the ball is heading. Just before your receiver enters the target,
cut his route off short by pulling on the right analog stick down and
towards your quarterback. It is crucial that you are pulling the analog
stick back towards the quarterback and not just straight down. If you
have done this correctly, your receiver will take a few stutter steps,
turn around, and automatically "rocket" straight up and catch the ball.
As with the last step it will take a lot of practice to get the timing
right on this maneuver.
Tips & Warnings
*
Running a rocket catch pass play can take a long time.
To keep your quarterback from getting sacked every time, try to pick
good rocket catching targets who are also fast (i.e., SPD rating of 88
or better).
*
Scrambling out of the pocket, either backwards or to the side, will buy
your quarterback some time. It will also help your quarterback throw
the right type of pass (i.e., a deep bullet pass).
