Hey what's up everyone. Novice Madden player here playing in franchise mode with the Chicago Bears (I wrote an introduction detailing my frustration with high turnover rates and high scores relative to offensive production as a result of short fields after KOs and asked if there were any appropriate adjustments to make in case anyone is interested).
Is there a playbook with both 4-3 and 3-4? It seems frustrating to me that you have to choose one or the other yet there are all of these bizarre formations like nickel 1-5-5... I mean I know most teams use one or the other as their base formations but in my chi playbook all I can find is a bunch of formations with 5, 6 or 7 defensive backs (what is the difference between the Quarter and Dollar)? In the older Madden games I played you had your goaline, 4-3, 3-4, nickel and dime... thanks Madden for the nifty sets with more defensive backs than we have on our team but can I get a freakin' 3-4 (I traded for L. Timmons of the Steelers who is now virtually useless)???
Can anyone advise me how to play defense generally? I've been stubbornly sticking with the 4-3 despite getting beat deep... It seems to me to be a lot easier to defend the run than the pass in Madden. I really don't want to revert to using the nickel all of the time... I feel that the 3-4 could be good because I can still rush the QB with one of the LBs and also use LBs against short/medium passes. I've tried using dime and don't like it much (I want Urlacher and Briggs on the filed as much as possible and hate giving up big impromptu QB "sneaks").. I'd really like to keep my best players on the field as much as possible and our secondary isn't too deep... For my team right now that would mean 3-4 DLs 3-4 LBs and 5 DBs at MOST. I can use the nickel but I want to get an extra ILB in there sometimes and think it might be better for blitzing the QB. Please advise.
