How Can I Stop the Run with a 3-4 Def?

I usually use the Dolphins and before I came on here I was playing this guy who was the Jets, and I noticed that I couldn't stop his run with the 3-4 Def.I stopped the pass well, I got atleast 3 int., but I just couldn't stop his run, once in awhile I would blitz my LBs through the middle but if he ran around them he gained some yards.Anyone know the 3-4 Def. well/ anyone play with the Phins and use their 3-4 Def?

OT:I won the game 3 - 0 very low scoring game and Ronnie Brown was beasting

If you know what side your opponent is probably going to run to then it's easier. Just come out in cover 2 and blitz the olb and ilb on that side. That's one thing you can do. Try pinching your line if he likes to run up the middle, or shifting to one side and shifting the line backers the other way. Nanos also work pretty well for me, since people see a bunch of guys in the box so they want to bounce it outside, where my blitzing defender is coming from.

hey Doc! there a number of 3-4 plays that you can use to stop both the inside and outside run with the 3-4. i like and use the following with minor adjustments:

Inside Runs:
3-4 Normal: Renegade
3-4 Over: Cross Fire 3, Sting Pinch Zone & Engage 8
3-4 Stack: Thunder Smoke & Engage 8

Outside Runs:
3-4 Normal: CB Dogs Man or CB Dogs Blitz....i also like the Crash Blitz
3-4Solid: OLB Dogs Fire, Engage 8 & Clamp Double Go

try putting da de's on contain and rebitz a linebacker or two, and control a safety

I can vouch for sting pinch zone. That play is great vs run AND pass, IMO.

If you can stop the run with the 3-4 well and you can stop the pass, then you have no reason to switch to the 46. IMO, the 3-4 is the more complicated D to learn, but much more rewarding in the end.

hey Hormel! i have been thinking about switching back to the 3-4 as well. you can actually stop the run pretty effectively out of the 3-4. when we played...i ran the 4-6....but....the 3-4 can also be HELLACIOUS against the run...even the inside runs. you just have to "stack" defenders in certain gaps....blitz a few key people or even flip the play.

Can you elaborate on this? I've just switched to the 3-4 and I'm having some trouble as well.

I suggest to use the 3-4 solid or over for runs because that's been helping me for people who are having the same problem as me

Sweet, thanks. I was thinking about asking which formations from 3-4 were better suited for the run, too. You read my mind. I'll try it out.

u kno u dont gotta use 3-4 whole game, try 4-3

stopping the run with 3-4 seems hard beacouse it has 3 dwn lineman so i would run fb dive on that all day

Yeah, that's what I get happening to me. But now I've found a pretty successful run stopper out of 1-5-5, so I'm set.

i like to use 3-4 normal: pinch or 3-4 over: pinch.. i also us cb dogs man outa 3-4 normal and that works pretty well if they run to the outside a lot. u gota manually pull ur cbs to the sideline a little though if they run outa i form twin te or full house cuz they will come in by themselves and get blocked by a te or fb.

are the cards good with the 34? to they what it takes to stop the run?

i Just use my MLB and sosmetimes they will get good yards but usually you can hold them tpo a coople
