| Its been an on going discussion around the league now. In a sport where LT broke Joe Theisman's leg on national television and Ronnie Lott told the team doctor to cut the tip of his pinky off cause he didn't want to miss playing a single down in a playoff game. To last Monday night where brodcasters where reffering to the Tom Brady Rule where The fifth provision of Rule 12, Section 2, Article 12 (roughing the passer) says that: "A rushing defender is prohibited from forcibly hitting in the knee area or below a passer who has one or both feet on the ground, even if the initial contact is above the knee. It is not a foul if the defender is blocked (or fouled) into the passer and has no opportunity to avoid him." i mean wtf pretty soon its going to the national flag league to be honest i think money is killing football | |

| So not tearing a QBs ACL, MCL or breaking a leg bone and possibly ending his career is being "too soft"? | |

huge guy diving at ur knees is asking for an injury...not really sure why thats soft... it soft because back in the 80's and earlier the quarter back used to get damn near murdered after every play but now when u touch the helmet of a quarterback your ruffing the passer not to many players hit dirty if you look at the game but when u got plamakers like Jared Allen getting fined for hitting someone in a contact sport get the hell out of here man

| This isn't that crazy of a post, especially seeing some of the flags the Pats got called for vs Trent Edwards.
There's a rule you can't hit a qb high, there's a rule you can't hit a qb low. You aren't allowed to throw the QB to the ground, you have to worry about overcommitting to a sack in case he throws and you have to play the whistle... all to avoid a flag on a sack. Refs have got flag happy in recent years.
If your team can't keep your QB upright, it's their fault. Pass rushing is the great equalizer, you can't make the sport too ticky-tack.

so a player like Jared Allen getting fined for doing his job last year dosen't seem off not for talking s*** to officials or about the league but for trying to make a play look I'm not saying hitting someone at the knees should be allow but punishing players for playing the game the love is kinda bull and no I've never lost in madden to roughing the passer I just think they should get back to the way the game was played not petty contact fouls and penalties in a CONTACT SPORT touching the head of a quarter back should not be penalty

| i see wat ur saying, but the QB isn't necasarilly a contact player...they havnt been training there whole like breaking tackling and ducking n dodging tackles. there little scronny guys for the most part. so they basically have to be protected by the refs. it may be over board but it basically has to be done. qbs are the stars of the NFL. if the refs dont protect them and peyton manning and tom brady get some career ending injuries, the NFL gon loose $$$$. | |

| part of football is intimidating the qb.u cant do that if u have to hesitate in the nano second u have to make a sack or hold up.pass rushers have to be more about obstructing the qb than bringing him to the ground these days.i agree theres to many rules to protect the qb.also...why is it if u get ur pinky on an off players facemask its a penalty but a wr or rb can grab a defenders facemask and try to rip his head off with no penalty? | |

| The rules of football are changing because the players are a lot more athletic and powerful than they were decades ago. It seems like it's being soft, but honestly players didn't have to worry about guys like they do now. Before the defense was just tough, not necessarily strong and fast, just tough. Now guys come flying at you with a lot more strength than they had before and it is much easier to do a lot of damage to an unprotected player. You're still allowed to beat the hell out of each other, just now you have to make sure you hit them in a safer spot. It's really not the big of a deal. | |
