ugh - getting cheesed online

So I played my first online Madden game tonight (so obviously I'm L1)..ended up being matched up with a L6...he chose the Vikes...everytime he had the ball on offense he would run the same play that I couldn't seem to stop...he would run what looked like a flanker screen to Percy Harvin and would score almost everytime...I had to accept the mercy being down 35-0 at the half, with the game obviously not any fun

In addition, anytime I had the ball and tried to run a pass play, he would sack me using Jared Allen, whom he would basically line up behind his nose tackle and come right through my line everytime...the handful of times I got him blocked was because I was in the I-formation and my fullback helped pick him up?

Are these the type of tactics I'm always going to face when trying to play a ranked game? It was not very fun...any feedback would be appreciated.
