| so there has been contraversy lately about rookies getting a lot more money than veterans that have already proven themselves. Matt Ryans contract allows him to get more money than Tom Brady. I personaly hate this and i don't agree with the NFL when they are giving unproven players this high amount of money. I was watching NFL live last night and marcellus wiley stated that "Jake Long can retire right now and recieve 30 million dollars." This is rediculous. How do you feel about this? | |

| All rookie contracts should be like Adrian Peterson's deal was. He had a decent amount of money to start with, but he had escalator clauses set in the deal for achieving ceratin things. This way, he was rewarded for his success. It is a win win for both team and player. If he didn't have such a good season, he wouldn't have gotten paid the high amount of money that he got. It can get bad though, because sometimes coaches will be directed to bench players or limited catches or carries to avoid them reaching the clause or incentives. It is what it is. The problem is the fact that contracts are not guaranteed. If they were, the players would not be trying to get these huge signing bonuses which are guaranteed. It kills me how everyone says a veteran player is greedy for trying to get the money when he can but it is ok for owners to make a player take a pay cut or release them in the middle of a contract and they end up losing whatever money is left on the deal. Take Jeff Garcia when he signed with the Browns. I think it was a 5 year $25 million deal. He played one year, they cut him and then he was out $20 million. Then look at Larry Fitzgerald last year. He hit every escalator clause in his rookie deal, which Arizona never thought he would do, and instead of paying him the money that his stats earned him, they try to renegotiate down to a lower amount. Look at TO with the Eagles, all he wanted to do was have money shifted forward because he knew that the Eagles would probably cut him to avoid paying him the roster bonus the following season. It was for $5million. He was called greedy and this and that, but he wasn't asking for more money, he just wanted the money shifted forward in his contract so that he can get it while he had value to the team. Another example is Mushin Muhammad, he was originally with the Panthers, but they cut him to avoid paying him a $13 million roster bonus which I am sure was a major influence in him signing the contract that he did with the Panthers, expecting to get that bonus. It is like a bait and switch. | |

| Long story short, rookie contracts should have escalator clauses. Not unreasonable ones though.
Signing bonuses are so high cause contracts aren't a sure thing. Players can get cut in the middle of a contract and lose money | |

| Upshaw doesn't want that cause he feels the owners will just pocket the money instead of refunneling it to the veteran players. | |

| Yeah, I like how AP earned his monet. Not sure what his total earnings was though. I don't like how Fitz hit all of his escalator clauses and they want to renegotiate his deal instead of paying him. | |
