IN-Game XMB and Trophy coming this Wednesday!

[b]Sony on Monday dated and detailed PS3 firmware update 2.40, a gameplay upgrade that includes in-game Cross Media Bar access and Trophy achievements to facilitate nerd cred.


Gameplay enhancements incoming

As previously unveiled, PS3 update 2.40 will introduce two features already popularized by Xbox 360; a universal system menu during gameplay, and an achievement system that tracks, records, and shares player accomplishments made in game.
Firstly, in-game XMB "means you can access the PS3 menu at any time while playing most games, simply by tapping the PlayStation button on your controller," say Sony. "With 2.40, you can check if any of your friends are online (thanks to their own user profile), read and send messages, change some settings for games, all without having to quit the game you are playing."
With regards to the Trophy system, all in-game accomplishments will be recognized with either platinum, gold, silver, or bronze hardware, depending on how much content has been unlocked and at what ranking. Xbox 360 recognizes accomplishments with a single Gamer Score, a total of all unlockable points acquired.
Sadly, Trophies will be limited to only a handful of games at launch, and they are not retroactive, meaning any supported will have to be replayed to acquire a Trophy. The list of supported games at launch are as follows:

The gamers have spoken and sony is stepping up, this Wednesday well have 2.40, the gamers said we don't need updates 2.7, 2.8 and 2.9 just give us 2.4 and thats just what they are going to do this Wednesday.

Yeah! tell me about it, I was thinking at least until august or september B4 2.40 would be released.

Just show that sony is starting to listen to us, the XMB well keep evolving, sony well continue to tweak the XMB until it's perfect and has all the features like it should there just giving it to us a little early and I'm for one are glade they are.

it sux tho we cant play music in game yet...hope they fix that soon

have u done it in madden?...and if you did how? mine says that the music cannot be played while in this game

i did it in tiger woods and is your music all ready downloaded to your ps3 cause it cant be connected by a usb cord like the ipod and etc it has to be download or synic on your ps3

aint that jus a customized playlist....u can do it on ur psp.......Fudgy are u talkin bout listenin to music like the 360 can?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to cking home out, but weather home gets here sooner or later, I hope they don't waite until home b4 they add the private chat and voice messaging.

dnt wry guys those features r coming just wait alil longer. also remeber this update was released sooner than sony wanted because it was in such high demand.

The home beta has already came out they have stoped them like around march. i hered it comes out around madden now

Home and madden on Aug 12th, it couldn't get any better than that, anyway, If home doesn't make in Aug, I still hop that we can private chat and voice message sometime B4 homes release.
