Sony's updates for the PlayStation 3 have been coming fairly frequently since the system launch, offering everything from small performance tweaks to major functionality upgrades. Now the company seems set more on adding extra features, with a promised firmware update set to bring in-game XMB and Trophies to the system, matching two of the Xbox 360's most popular features. But it looks like Microsoft isn't the only place Sony is drawing inspiration.

Dengeki Online (via Kotaku) reports that Sony Computer Entertainment overlord Kaz Hirai presented "Life with PlayStation" for the PlayStation 3 today. As the picture shows, the feature shows the Earth and lets users scroll around to view news and weather from around the world. It will also allow users to select background music to listen to as they read headlines and check whether it's raining in Zimbabwe.
The new interface and functionality seems strangely familiar, but added (free) features are hardly worth complaining about. No word on when Life with PlayStation will go live, but we'll keep you posted when we hear more.

Yeah, but 360 owners pay to play online for good games. The PS3 hasnt had many great title releases yet.

Yes! really it's only a matter of time, when update 2.40 hits with the XMB, trophy's and now life with playstation.

Why would anyone want to pay for what sony well give you 4 free, pulse get a system that doesn't give you a RROD every 4 months. MS can't fix the RROD issue, not unless they completely redo the mother board of the 360 and thats not going to happen, it would hit them for ahole lot more than the current 3.3 billion in RROD repairs. MS is talking about leasing their machine to companies like 3DO and Phillipe's and let them make a 360 clone that would play their games and won't RROD, to me thats got to go down in history as the biggest design flaw in gaming history but thats what happen's when you rush your machine to the market, to try to get that head start that you think you need to compete with sony.

The wii is a kids machine and nintendo will jump ship at the first sign of sluggish sales thats why they don't mass produce the wii, it's not that it stays sold out they don't make about 100 machines evey 2 months, nintendo know its technically inferior to the other systems and like the gamecube and n64, they'll stop without a moments notice and quite making games for it.

A PlayStation 3 dev kit would have set you back over US$20,000, but Sony announced it is halving that cost to $10,250 per for the dev kits to make games on their system, if sony could lower that amount to 5,000 or even give the developers the kits, top notch games would be flowing to the system. Sony well do this sooner or later but with all the system updates to entice PPL to get the ps3, the developers might start thinking 10 grand might not be so bad, anyway thats sony last card to play and if or when they play it "look out".

360 has also been out a lot longer than the ps3...this give microsoft more time to fix all the bugs allowing them to create more top of the notch games. But ps3 is getting close to surpassing the 360. Madden is going to be 60fps this year same as 360 along with NCAA. so just give the ps3 time like everyone did with the xbox.

Wassup guys there is some good news. if u guys watched e3 they said life w/ playstation is going to hit @ the end of the month so be looking for an update soon pe@ce.

Unfortunately if you also looked at microsofts expo from E3then you know that FFXIII is going to be exclusively on the 360 and not on the PS3. WTH did sony do to lose that franchise? Also don't be so quick to knock the Wii. Yeah its a bit cartoony but thats been a nintendo trademark since the beginning and they have some good games on it for adults as well. RE4 and the umbrella chronicles for starters and the weather and news that PS3 is about to offer has been on the Wii for awhile. And what the devs are doing to use the wii fit board for other games like the wii ski and the snowboarding game thats coming out is cool, not to mention that there is going to be a racing/driving game coming out where you sit on the wii board and use to help with steering by leaning right and left. I really believe with the success they have had with the new remotes and the wii fit board that you can expect to see something similar in a couple years on the next version of xbox and the PS4? because people like it so much. I personally haven't played alot of sports games because after 2 days I found most of them to be boring when i was playing the nes/snes/genesis systems but love the bowling and golfing on the wii(and I don't golf). If the baseball games work the similar to wii sports when your battng I'll be buying it as well. Don't get me wrong the PS3 is a great system with awesome graphics but don't sell nintendo short due to its usually cartoonish nature they have put alot of ingenuity into this new system and have most of the top titles from dreamcast, genesis,snes and nes available for download most for about $5.

I played the nintendo brand since it was released way back in the day... the NES, SNES, N64 and the gamecube but nintendo balling out on the gamecube like they did sorta made me take a step back from their brand. I have always loved the Zelda series and RE4 is a solid effort on the wii but I'm afraid at the "siltiest" hint in sales drop... they'll be moving forward with another system mark my words... just like they did with the N64 and gamecube for some reason nentendo thinks this is the best strategie for the company. The reason you can't find wii's at retail stores, isn't because there sold out every were... its because nintendo doesn't want to mass produce them and have a ton of system sitting on retail selfs after the "fad" is over and they move on like with the gamecube... I guess you can say they learned from their past efforts. Nintendo will alway be in the gaming world because the appeal to kids like they did to us in the mid to late 80's - early 90's... in fact, I still play the nes and snes "via" emulation... games like Tecmo super bowl, zelda series, mario and so own... I have like 1,800 pulse games "man" only if we would had this when we were kids, right! Anyway! I don't sale Nintendo short and they'll alway hold a spacial place in my heart as I grew up with the system and later when kids come into the picture... I'm sure it will again.

Wrong again u should research before u post FFXIII is for both systems they would lose so much money if it was just on the 360. xbox just showed it because it wasnt supposed to be on the 360. o n guess wat u guys lost bioshock n lost planet to the ps3 which was supposed to be exclusives it goes both ways son. research b4 u post.

Yeah! it seems the quote on quote "exclusive" is a thing of the past... the markets just to big. If its not a name brand "sony" or "MS" triple AAA title or the now "famous" timed 6 month "exclusive"... its going to be on both system. "reason" is because of high DEV cost to produce games now.

That's pretty cool,i just don;t like my ps3 tho,and why does everybody bring up 360 owners have to pay to play online,it's online $50 a year,thats not expensive lol,now if it was like $20 a month you can knock it but $50 a year is just like playin for free..

you r right super the developers actually like developiong games on the
ps3 because it gives u more options. its just the cost is high. but
there is news that sony is trying to lower these costs. which is easier
said then done, but at least they r trying.

You know for a second I thought you were a smart guy but that first sentence alone has proven to me that you really don't know anything. FFXIII exclusive to 360? Are you retarded? Square Enix would LOSE billions of dollars on it if it were, seriously. Japan HATES 360, and THAT is their largest market. And they said specifically it will be multiplatform and will release on both systems THE SAME DAY.

LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION IS NOW OUT GUYS JUST GO TO FOLDING @ HOME TO DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE AND FOLDING AT HOME WILL TURN INTO LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION. ITS A PRETTY COOL FEATURE THAT SHOWS WEATHER AND NEWS ALL OVER THE WORLD. THIS FEATURE HAS A WAY BETTER LAYOUT THAN THE WII SO CHECK OUT N POST WHAT U THINK.

NO PROBLEM WHEN IT COMES TO THE TECHS OF THE PS3 IM YOUR MAN. BUT SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT LIFE WITH PLAYSTATION NOT ALOT OF PPL KNW ITS OUT YET. THEY R ALSO ADDING A RADIO TO LIFE WITH PS SO WATCH OUT FOR THAT.
