| Top safeties in the game (alphabetical order):
1. Dawkins 2. Polamalu 3. Reed 4. Sanders
How I rank them:
1. Polamalu - Troy Polamalu basically plays all over the field. He is excellent in man coverage underneath and downfield, he is good in zone w/ help over the top, he is excellent against the run, and is an outstanding tackler.
2. Dawkins - Brian Dawkins' strength is in run support and blitzing the QB. He is excellent with help over the top but not nearly as effective as Ed Reed. He is a great tackler and a big hitter. He is not a good cover safety, especially in man coverage.
3. Reed - Ed Reed's strength is in zone coverage. He has an uncanny ability to know where the QB is going with the ball. He is a ball hog and look to score everytime he gets a pick. He is pretty good in man-to-man coverage but is not as effective against the run as Dawkins & Polamalu.
4. Sanders - Bob Sanders' strength is in run support. He is a great tackler and will knock the snot outta you. He is not a good cover guy, especially in man coverage. He gives up a lot of underneath stuff to make a hit instead of making a play on the ball.
Because Polamalu is the most versatile of the four, I'm taking him before the others. But that's not to say the others are slouches. | |

| Is this even a question? Ed Reed has proved he's the best FS in the league by a mile. The real question is, Who is the better safety, Reed or Polamalu? | |

| the thing about ed reed and the whole not being good at run support thing.....................we actually have a good front 7 so why does he even need to play the run??? troy P usually blitzes to be apart of the pressure or he is guarding the TE .....brian dawkins is the only FS who acutally just sits at the line of scrimmage which says alot about the eagles front 7... lol atleast troy P moves around | |
