they took it out cause people complained about it being overly effective and that they were "cheesing" with it

They switched the playmaker up because people were using it inappropriately aka cheating, cheesing etc. But when a player knows something is almost unstoppable they will do it anyway most online players lack integrity and have a win at all costs attitude. I think most read Machiavelli's essay about the ends justifying the means in his words same as above win at all costs.
