Anyways, here are some tips for pre-snap read.
- If one corner is facing his receiver and the other is facing the QB, it's Cover 3.
- If the safeties are under 10 yards from the LOS and the opponent didn't do any adjustments to his secondary, it's usually man coverage.
Obviously, you can't always tell the coverage before the snap. That's why you've got to be good at recognizing coverages right after the snap. Here are the basic plays.
Cover 1: The FS/SS drops deep and the other safety runs toward a player.
Cover 2: Both safeties drop deep and get away from the middle.
Cover 3: One safety drops deep while one stays low.
Cover 4: Both safeties drop deep while keeping the same distance from the middle of the field.
