Ok we all laugh at ratings, and fatigue and how its used in the game.
I have the solution.
You can build the whole engine around this.
We know players all have labels based on their abilities we have
power backs, speed backs, explosive receivers, possession receivers,
cannon arm QB.Now based on these abilities, we should base players
impact in the game. Players play the same throughout the game,
but their effectiveness lessens as the game progress based on how they
are used. Say a QB goes to 3 receivers... and between the 3 receivers
they have 5 catches and about 70 yards, or 8 catches 140 yards... If
the QB has just been sending these receivers on streaks and they have
been running top speed by the time 4th quarter comes around, that
speedy receiver with 97 speed is not running down the field 80 yards at
top speed any more.
I'll go through all the positions.
Brandon Jacobs is a Powerback. So at the begining of the game, if
he can light up a safety or a cornerback or linebacker... He can just
truck him with no problem, but lets say its the 3rd quarter, and Jacobs
has like 15-20 carries.. Basically his momentum to truck a defender has
been minimized because of wear and tear. Weather conditions can impact
fatigue too. If its too cold or theirs too much snow on the floor could
cause a player not to perform to the best of his abilities.
You could ever have a meter to monitor the players impact. So
Example You have the Players picture, His name, and then what kind of
player he is so if hes a power back it would say power back with a
meter of like ()()()()()()()()()()()() bars, and as the player is used
his meter depletes.
So say a QB like Peyton Manning is coming out of 2 Tight End sets,
and Keeps hitting Dallas Clark for short completions... It may not
impact his meter, but if he's making catches and trucking sticking
defenders, and running 40-50 yards down field, 3-4 times in a quarter
by the 4th quarter his meter would be finished, so if he tries to truck
stick a defender and his meter is empty depending on how he gets hit,
he can fumble or get injured.
If all players cant be labeled then it could just be the impact
bar. And then you can save alot of time with stats. You will only have
to rate receivers on receiver categories... Catching, acceleration,
speed, carrying, kick return, punt return.. Running backs would be
rated on pass block, run block (for 2back sets), speed, carry, catch
etc..
Now what did I say about players play the same throughout the
game... Basically all players are basically rated 100. So linemen will
run block, when they have to run block, when they are in pass block
they will pass block, BUT how they are rated all depends how
long they hold those blocks, how quick they pick up blitzes, how they
react to defensive line adjustments (false starts), how prone they are
to holding (ex. a low rated tackle is being blitzed against, he picks
up the block but hes tired and outrated by defender so instead of not
picking up anybody he holds the blitzer) but not to be abused it only
holds him if the play is going to his side.
Just some thoughts I had to help the next product...
